Common questions

Where did my old tab page go?

Chrome lets one extension own the new tab. Disabling or removing Maris from chrome://extensions gives it straight back.

Connecting Google

Click the circle in the top-right of the new tab, or open Settings and use Connect. Chrome shows Google's own consent screen. Maris asks for two things: read-only access to your calendar, and read and write access to Google Tasks. It asks for no access to your mail.

If the calendar stays empty, open Settings and check that Google shows as connected. Disconnect and reconnect forces a fresh consent round, which is the fix if you previously declined a permission.

My calendar shows a warning instead of events

That means Google answered with an error — usually a rate limit or a temporary outage. Maris keeps showing the last data it successfully fetched and retries by itself. If it persists for more than an hour, disconnect and reconnect.

Changing the wallpaper

Press Alt+W to step through them, or pick one in Settings. Rotate with the time of day hands the choice back to the clock. All wallpapers are bundled with the extension, so this works offline and nothing is downloaded.

Getting my time out

Open the Timer view and use Export CSV. You get every logged session with its task, start, end and duration, ready for a spreadsheet or an invoice.

Why is weather off by default?

It is the only feature that contacts a server that isn't Google. Rather than ask for that permission when you install Maris, it is requested at the moment you switch weather on, and you can revoke it from chrome://extensions whenever you like.

Does Maris work offline?

Yes. Tasks, notes, the timer, the clock and the wallpapers all work with no connection. Calendar shows the last data it synced.

Is my data backed up anywhere?

No — and that is deliberate, since there is no server to back it up to. Your data lives in this browser profile on this machine. Export your sessions to CSV if you need a copy of them.

Reporting a bug

Useful things to include: your Chrome version (from chrome://version), what you expected, what happened, and whether it repeats after reloading the tab. If the page looks broken, open DevTools with F12 and paste anything red from the Console.

Privacy and data requests

See the privacy policy. Because nothing you create leaves your device, there is no copy of your data for us to export or delete — but if you have a question about that, write to the address above.
