Privacy Policy

Maris, a Chrome extension by Treemont Studio · Last updated 2 October 2026

The short version. Maris has no server. Your tasks, notes, timer sessions and settings are stored by your browser on your own machine and are never transmitted to us, because there is nowhere to transmit them to. We collect nothing, we have no analytics, and we cannot read your email.

1. What Maris stores, and where

Everything you create in Maris is kept in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on the device you are using. That includes:

This data is not sent to Treemont Studio, and it is not sent to any third party. We operate no server, no database and no account system in connection with Maris. If you uninstall the extension, your browser deletes this data.

2. What Maris collects about you

Nothing. Specifically, Maris contains:

We do not know how many times you open a new tab, what you write in it, or whether you use the extension at all.

3. Network connections Maris can make

Maris makes no network request unless you switch on a feature that needs one. There are exactly three, and two of them are off until you turn them on.

ConnectionWhenWhat is sent
googleapis.com Only after you click Connect Google Your Google access token, to read your calendar and read and update your tasks.
open-meteo.com Only after you switch Weather on and grant permission The coordinates of the city you chose. No identifier, no account, no personal data.
Your search engine Only when you type in the search box and press Enter Your search terms, exactly as if you had used the address bar.

The weather permission is an optional browser permission. It is not granted when you install Maris; Chrome asks you for it at the moment you enable the feature, and you can revoke it at any time from chrome://extensions. Maris re-checks that the permission still exists before every weather request.

4. Google data

If — and only if — you choose to connect your Google account, Maris requests two permissions:

PermissionUsed for
calendar.readonly Reading your events so the week grid and the "up next" widget can show them. Read-only: Maris cannot create, change or delete anything in your calendar.
tasks Reading your Google Tasks and sending back changes you make in Maris, such as ticking one off.

Maris cannot read your email

Maris requests no Gmail permission whatsoever — not even the metadata-only scope that can read senders and subjects but not message bodies. It has no technical ability to access your mail.

How that data is handled

Limited Use

Maris's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used solely to provide the calendar and task features visible in the extension. It is never transferred to anyone, never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train any model. No human at Treemont Studio reads it — it never leaves your device.

5. Data we share or sell

None. We have no data about you to share or sell, and we would not do so if we did.

6. Children

Maris is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

7. Your rights

Because your data never leaves your device, you already have complete control of it: it is deleted when you uninstall the extension or clear the extension's storage, and the settings panel lets you disconnect Google and turn weather off at any time. There is no copy of it for us to produce, correct or erase on request. If you are in the EU, UK or Switzerland and want to exercise a right under the GDPR, UK GDPR or revFADP, write to us and we will confirm this in writing.

8. Changes to this policy

If Maris ever gains a feature that changes what is described here, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change before that feature ships. Material changes to how data is handled will also be noted in the extension's changelog.
